Patient Information
We take care of you from the moment you step through our door.
Knowing what to expect during the course of radiation treatment puts many patients at ease. Below is a general breakdown of our planning and treatment process.
Consultation
During your initial visit, you meet with a board-certified radiation oncologist for a consultation and physical exam in a warm, comfortable setting. This is the ideal forum to ask questions and discuss treatment options in detail. We welcome and encourage your family members to join you. We understand this can be an emotionally difficult time.
Treatment Planning and Simulation
At this time, your radiation therapist performs a CT scan to plan the area of your treatment. CT images are transferred to a planning computer for your radiation oncologist to map treatment targets and fields. Next, we position you in the manner in which you will receive your daily treatment. We mark reference points with ink on your skin and take photos for identification and positioning.
Set-Up and Films
During this appointment with your radiation therapist, we verify treatment fields and take X-rays of you on the treatment machine in the position determined during your CT scan. We also schedule your daily treatment appointments.
Radiation Therapy Daily Treatment
Your treatment appointments are typically scheduled for the same time each day, Monday through Friday. Scheduling is flexible based on your needs. Depending on your diagnosis, radiation treaments may range from one to eight weeks. Every week, you meet with your radiation oncologist and nurse for an evaluation to measure progress and address your questions and/or concerns.
