Darryl Crum has been diligent in getting his yearly PSA screenings. For a couple of years, he has witnessed his PSA levels creep steadily upward. Since hitting age 50, he visited his primary care physician for complete blood work every six months to monitor his levels. It didn’t take long for them to spike, however. Once they did, Darryl’s physician referred him to an urologist. A biopsy confirmed prostate cancer. It was also found that some cancer had broken through the side of the prostate.

Michelle Strong   Michelle Strong
Michelle Strong is exactly as her name implies. In fighting cancer, her strength became evident. After a routine screening mammogram, a diagnostic mammogram, and a biopsy confirmed cancer, Michelle quickly set out to learn about the nature of her disease—HER2-positive breast cancer. Through doctors and her own research, she discovered that HER2-positive breast cancer tends to be more aggressive than other types. “In my mind, time was of the essence. Even a biopsy couldn’t confirm my stage of cancer,” Michelle said.

Routine mammograms have been a way of life for Laura Cooper. Although she has no family history of breast cancer, she smartly schedules a mammogram each year and checks it off her calendar until the next one came due.
